Tribal Chamber Choir

In 2009, Tribal Chamber Choir won the Sacred Music Competition at the Limerick Festival of Church Music; the Premier Competition for Mixed Voice Choirs and the Victor Leeson Memorial Trophy (National Choir of the Festival) at the Cork International Choral Festival. In 2010, the choirs first CD Carols from Galway was released in December and received second prize in the RTE Lyric FM ‘Choirs for Christmas’ Competition, and in 2012, the choir won the Premier Competition for Chamber Choirs and the John Mannion Memorial Trophy at the Cork International Choral Festival.

 

Tribal Chamber Choir has performed the Brahms Requiem with the Charnwood Symphony Orchestra, UK; Mozart’s Spatzen Messe in Westminster Cathedral, London; Mozart Requiem, Britten A Ceremony of Carols and Rheinberger 'Cantus' Mass in E flat in St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway; the Irish premiere of Anne-Marie O'Farrell's Chalice and Paten Prayer in UCC’s Honan Chapel, Palle Mickelborg's A Noone of Night in Chartres Cathedral, France; the Irish Premiere of Eric Sweeney's Hymn to Gaia in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford; Mozart Regina Coeli, Palestrina Missa Aeterna Christi Munera and Vivaldi Gloria in the Irish College Rome; Faure’s Requiem in St. Bavo’s Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium; Mozart 'Coronation' Mass in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna; Haydn Missa Brevis in F in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral; the Irish Premiere of Patrick Cassidy’s Famine Remembrance with the RTE Concert Orchestra; Schubert Magnificat, Haydn’s Missa Cellensis and Missa Sancti Nicolai in the Augustinian Church, Galway; Mozart 'Great' Mass in C minor, Durufle Requiem, Vierne Messe Solennelle, Haydn Missa in Tempore Belli, Bach Magnificat and Jenkins The Armed Man in Galway Cathedral.  

 

The choir featured in a live broadcast of Sunday Mass with RTE from the Claddagh Church in 2011, performing Haydn’s Missa Brevis in F and music for the Feast of the Ascension from Handel’s Messiah. The choir has collaborated with many ensembles to present works including a concert performance of G&S Pirates of Penzance with the Galway Youth Orchestra, a semi-staged production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Eurydice with DLR Opera; and numerous guest appearances for opera evenings.

 

The choir also performs a wide variety of a cappella music from renaissance to contemporary and regularly performs for charitable organizations. The choir has commissioned and premiered choral pieces from Ben Hanlon, Mark Keane, Eric Sweeney, Anne-Marie O’Farrell, Philip Stopford and Michael McGlynn.
